Sculptures in public spaces

Public space sculpture serves a cultural and social function: it enhances the aesthetic quality of places and urban centers, encourages human connections, and creates opportunities for encounters, entertainment, and dialogue among people—ultimately improving quality of life.

The relationship between sculpture and place, when it is not merely celebratory, can be harmonious and inclusive, disruptive or irreverent, or a provocative action aimed at shaking consciences.

Feather of Light and Memories - 2023

Tribute to the Alpino of Alessandria, placed in the park opposite the entrance to the railway station.

The two-sided nature of the feather encompasses the historic symbolism of the famous black feather worn on the Alpini hat.

The pen’s shape is designed to reflect the sun’s rays in the surrounding environment, creating unexpected dynamic relationships. The tassel at the base of the pen is shaped like a hemisphere and holds the emblem of the Alessandria Alpini section, which evokes the plan of the Cittadella, resembling a star.

The hemisphere is surrounded by a ring that holds swarms of celestial bodies as metaphors for the Alpini’s satellite sections. The back of the pen is patinated black, the classic color of the Alpini black pens. The design was shared with architect Marco Cobelli, project manager and creator.

The architectural construction underlying the “Pen of light and memories” combines multiple materials: reinforced concrete, bronze, and corten steel, enhancing the expressiveness of the material in an endless play of evocative references.

Tribute to Pietro Busi - 2023

“Tribute to Pietro Busi” is a monument in memory of Pietro Busi.
I thought of the shape of the TAO, essential for its balance and powerful for its dynamism, to evoke the idea of the nursing home and the personality of Pietro Busi.

In the circle, energy, movement, and beauty are brought together in a metaphorical form.
The YIN shape represents the transformation of the village, the town, with the logo of the DON PALLA Nursing Home at the top, the much-desired rest for human fragilities.

The YANG shape embraces Pietro Busi’s sparkling character; dynamic signs trace luminous paths; a shower of celestial bodies crosses the space of the Tao, generating clusters of stellar matter, announcing the full and immense brightness of the great sun, emphasizing Pietro’s straightforward sunniness, and at the same time reminding us that the location where the nursing home stands is called “Dosso del Monte Sole.”

Below the large disk is the stately portrait of Pietro Busi, made mostly in high relief.
At the bottom, closing the work, is the dedication to Pietro Busi:<< He gave shape to the dream of a community.>>

Fly High - 2015

“Fly High” is a tribute to Paolo Rovagnati, commissioned and commissioned by the Rovagnati Family.

The dramatic presence of the sculpture immediately makes a substantial visual impact. The eagle-Paolo appears to watch over his company from above, continuing to protect it and elevate its fortunes.

Pillars of the Sky - 2005

“Pillars of the Sky” Installed at the entrance of the new headquarters of the judicial offices and juvenile services of Sassari. Two bronze columns, five meters tall, soar in the building’s atrium, composed of crusts of many fragments of stellar magma, alluding to the bark of the cork oak.

Alghero, a City to Touch - 2005

Alghero, a City to Touchis installed in the historic centre of Alghero. It is a tactile sculpture for the visually impaired, cast in patinated bronze, representing the city in full scale and three-dimensional form. Around its outer perimeter, the façades of the most significant buildings are depicted in bas-relief with their names written in braille; a tactile raised line leads to the position of each building in the city.

Memories of Rediscovered Signs - 2004

Memories of Rediscovered SignsNew Municipal Library of Somma Lombardo (VA).

The work consists of two bronze sheets on either side of the facade, with raised signs that recall the writings of various peoples, interspersed with ideograms of significant and historical events of the city.

A City to Touch - 2004

“A City to Touch” A tactile sculpture for the visually impaired, outside the cathedral of Gallarate. A large geometric star frames the plan of the city of Gallarate. The work was shaped in the presence of a visually impaired person who contributed suggestions and advice to the final drafting of the sculpture.

Those Who Go - 1998

“Those Who Go” Tomb of the Antico family, in the monumental cemetery of Bruzzano, Milan. The bronze panel placed above the entrance of the chapel reflects the idea of lightness of the architectural structure.

A trail of celestial bodies moves away from the sun’s vital energy and extends towards new horizons, serving as a metaphor for the journey.

Monument to Peace – 1997

“Monument to Peace” Created for the Municipality of Troia and installed in Piazza S. Secondino, the three large bronze fountain-sculptures were conceived to bring the square to life in its full entirety. At the entrance to the square rises Mercury, messenger of the Gods, protector of trade, travel, and communication — a messenger of Peace, caught in flight across the Daunian sky.
At the centre of the square, the Rising Sun welcomes us, with water springing from its base in radiant brilliance. The sun and water are the elements that ensure a good harvest, a symbol of Peace within the family; in times of war, when danger has passed, one can emerge from shelters and return to life in the sunlight.

To the right of the Sun stands Perseid, a celestial body recalling both the shooting stars of St Lawrence’s night and the Comet that, at Christmas, announces the birth of the Saviour.

The light emanating from the three bronze sculptures is a metaphor for life in contrast to the darkness of death — a light representing serenity and spiritual harmony for every community at Peace with the world.

The idea of Peace is linked with harmony, beauty, solidarity, and hope.
